I Cannot Get Away From It!

I can’t get away from it! It is everywhere I look!  I click on Facebook and scroll through and there it is. I turn on the TV and there it is.  I listen to the radio and it waits for me there as well. All I seem to see, hear, and read about these days is politics.  Perhaps you love the political conversations, debates, and activity, but for me it becomes tiresome.  Recently we have seen both major parties have their conventions and nominate their representative to run for the president of the United States of America. Both conventions had moments of tension and upheaval yet things moved forward as they always seem to do.

For many, the election season though tiresome brings a hope for a new direction.  No matter your political leanings you have probably hoped that certain things were different and we often times want our political leaders to make the changes in our country that we believe are needed.  It should be noted though that no matter what party seems to be in control problems continue to persist, evil does not go away, poverty is not abolished, crime is still an issue, sin still persists in human nature, and the struggle continues on.  Political unrest has been an issue forever. Throughout time people have said, if we simply get the right person in charge our problems will go away.  Humanity is still looking and if you are seeking to elect that leader you will be disappointed.

Psalm 146:3–8 (ESV) ³ Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation. ⁴ When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish. ⁵ Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, ⁶who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever; ⁷ who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; ⁸ the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous.

We do not place our trust in a son [or daughter] of man because they have no salvation, but rather we place our trust in the only one who has salvation for you, Jesus Christ.  The policies of a president are always temporary and the office of President of the United States is temporary as well.  My trust will be in the one and only eternal king, the crucified and risen Jesus Christ. With my trust placed in Christ I will vote.  I will be concerned about my country.  I will pray for my leaders just as I have been called to do [See 1 Timothy 2:1-2] but my hope is not for the next four years or eight years.  My hope is not for the next 50 years.  My trust is placed in Jesus Christ and that gives me hope for eternity because he overcame something that no one else has, death.  He has promised the same thing to me and to all who believe! Now that is better than any campaign promise I have heard!
